Top Rate Beginner Programs
Squaw Valley USA, world famous for having some of the most advanced and sought after terrain in ski country, has added lifts, equipment and programs designed exclusively for the resort's beginner skiing and snowboarding guests.
Squaw Valley has always focused on providing a premier learning environment, but since the Olympics in 1960 and the extreme skiing movement of the 1970's and 80's, it is our expert terrain that seems to have received the most attention, explains Squaw Valley President Nancy W. Cushing. However, the Papoose Learning Area at the base of the mountain and a top rate learning center at High Camp are prime examples of Squaw Valley's immense commitment to beginner skiers and snowboarders.
Papoose Learning Area
The new Papoose Learning Area is tucked away on the lower mountain near the Far East lift and offers exceptional easy terrain, two surface lifts and a new double chairlift for first timers. Papoose Lodge and Learning Center offers several acres of gently sloping terrain exclusive to beginner skiers and snowboarders. Last season the addition of the Papoose Lodge helped to eradicate the usual obstacles that make learning to ski difficult. Beginners' friends and family can watch comfortably from the Papoose Lodge and greet them in between runs with hot chocolate and snacks available in the lodge. Special $34 all day lift tickets are offered for skiers and snowboarders at the Papoose Lodge and Learning Area. This area also offers a convenient and less expensive option for parents looking for a safe area to share time on the snow with their children. Children 12 and under ski or snowboard at Squaw Valley for only $5 every day.
High Camp
At the top of the Cable Car, High Camp is the gateway to our expansive beginner area in a beautiful upper mountain meadow. One of Squaw Valley's biggest attractions for beginners has always been the mountaintop beginner area at High Camp, affording first timers the same full mountain views and experience as more seasoned visitors. Three beginner double chairlifts are available and plenty of wide open space to practice on.
