Ski School Instructors Boast 1000 Years of Experience

Since Squaw Valley’s Ski School began in 1949, with French Olympic star Emile Allais, it has attracted some of the finest ski instructors from around the world. Our tradition continues today with Tim Reeve, Steve Day and Dan Ray, all of whom have been recognized as the top 100 instructors in the US by Ski Magazine. The one, three and five-day clinics emphasize a commitment to technical skiing at its highest level. They feature goal specific coaching, video feedback, fun racing and off-slope workshops that coincide with on-hill applications. Prices start at $719 for the 3-day and $1109 for the 5-day (includes instruction and workshops, lift tickets, videotaping, lunch and a Thursday night banquet). One-day clinics run $199 (lift ticket not included).

“I reckon the Squaw Valley Ski and Snowboard School has the most veteran instructors working and teaching in the United States,” boasts Sport School Director Davy Roy Precit. “We may not be the biggest Ski School, but there’s no doubt in my mind that we’re the best! Just take a look at our roster, over 200 Ski & Snowboard instructors (add 100 more who work exclusively with the children at Squaw Kids) with approximately 120 returning veterans who make their way back to the mountain every year.”

The annual orientation meeting in November is a virtual who’s who of teaching professionals in the ski industry. The list of legends reads: Leroy Hill, 35+ years, Former Ski school Director, Former Patrol Director, Past president PSIA, Elissa Slanger, 40+ years, Originator of “Women’s Way” Ski Seminars, Nominated to the Ski Hall of fame 2006, PhD. in psychology, currently working with the Western Regional PSIA Demo Team as a consultant. It’s this core group of experienced professionals who come back year after year that make up the vast amount of teaching experience at Squaw Valley USA.
