Air and Shuttle Service Offers Easy Access to Lake Tahoe and Squaw Valley

Time is valuable and most of us would rather be on the slopes than sitting in a car for hours on end.  Luckily, Squaw Valley and Lake Tahoe are easily accessible by three international airports, Reno-Tahoe International Airport, Sacramento International Airport, and San Francisco International Airport all offering convenient air travel service for skiers and snowboarders.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport: located approximately 45 minutes by car east of Truckee via I-80 and offers 24 hour air service from all major cities in North America.  Air service is provided by Alaska Air, Aloha, America West, American, Continental, Delta Connection, Frontier, Horizon, Northwest, Skywest, Southwest, United and US Airways. This past year, Reno-Tahoe International Airport added more direct flights from Southern CA and direct flights from Chicago.  This year Southwest has added direct flights from Baltimore and Chicago. Nonstop flights include Aloha Airline’s addition of daily non-stop flights from Burbank, CA and San Diego.  Alaska Airlines added a third daily nonstop from LAX to Reno-Tahoe and Southern Californians can take advantage of United Air’s new Fri-Sunday daily direct flights.  Southwest Airlines continues to be the largest carrier out of Reno-Tahoe and offers seven daily direct flights to and from Southern California.

Sacramento International Airport: 90 miles west of Squaw Valley via all-weather interstate 80, also offers an array of options for Lake Tahoe bound travelers.  24 hour air service is offered to and from many cities with direct routes.  Carriers include Alaska, Aloha, America West, American, Continental, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, Horizon, Mexicana, Northwest, Southwest, United and United Express.  The Sacramento International Airport is located twelve miles northwest of California’s capital and halfway between North Lake Tahoe and San Francisco (a two-hour drive either way).

San Francisco International Airport: 270 miles west via all-weather Interstate 80, is the third alternative for airport travel with daily arrivals from cities all over the world.
